The closing slips, the lease starts late, the renovation runs over — storage-in-transit is the industry's buffer. Price it before you need it.
The short version: storage-in-transit keeps your shipment inside the moving contract — carrier custody, continuing valuation coverage, delivery included — priced per hundredweight plus handling. Self-storage is cheaper per month but breaks the chain of custody and liability. Ask every quoting carrier for the SIT rate and the point where it converts to permanent storage, in writing, even if you think you won't need it. The people who need it never thought so either.
